Chagres Rice is an effort to make the process of hulling rice for Panamanian farmers easier without access to electricity or industrial equipment. Unbeknownst to many, rice actually comes with an in-consumable shell, which must be removed. Currently the farmers of the Chagres region use large mortar and pestles, which are inefficient, and break the rice grains. Our goal is to make that process easier, and already we have created a functional prototype. Next steps include re-iterating our design, duplicating it, and then presenting it to the farmers.
